Homeland Security urges Windows users to uninstall QuickTime

The Department of Homeland Security has advised Window users to uninstall Apple’s QuickTime program after two bugs were found in the software.

The government agency announcement was prompted by a blog post by security firm Trend Micro. Their Zero Day Initiative first noted the two QuickTime for Windows vulnerabilities on April 14th and noted that Apple was no longer issuing security updates for QuickTime for Windows, despite the bugs being active.

Trend Micro said on their blog post that they were unaware of any current active attacks against these vulnerabilities. However, the only way to protect your computer would be to uninstall the program. Additionally, the warning does not apply to QuickTime on Mac operating systems.

Apple has yet to publicly comment on the matter, but they did post instructions for  uninstalling QuickTime for Windows on its website.
