BBB to host National Moving Month kickoff event on May 6

moving truckMay is National Moving Month. It’s the beginning of the busiest moving season for Texans, which is also when unscrupulous operators are most likely to take advantage of consumers.

Together with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and the Southwest Movers Association, your BBB will hold a kickoff event at our Austin headquarters on Tuesday, May 6.

Anne Ferro, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) administrator, headquartered in Washington, D.C., will help kick off National Moving Month with Better Business Bureau (BBB®), Southwest Movers Association (SMA) and Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) to help teach consumers how to hire a moving company and avoid moving scams as well as educating Texans about resources available to them, and penalties for rogue operators.

The May 6 event will highlight consumer protection legislation and safe moving tips. On social media, you can interact and follow the event by using the hashtag #MoveSafeTX.

SMA’s Pinnacle Movers, an elite group of companies who adhere to high information ethical standards and professional competence, and movers that are BBB Accredited Businesses, which are businesses that also abide by a strict set of standards, will be on hand with moving trucks for onsite demonstrations of best practices.

Each group will also have tables to disseminate important moving tips.

  1. The cost of the moving mainly depends on the large number of variables;
    some of the variables include quantity of things being moved, differences in prices between companies, distance to be covered, time duration that would be taken for the
    move, number of people involved in packing, loading and unloading.
    Some complete assistance moving companies would raise the price on the day of
    the shift and cause scuffles. Average cost of home survey report is $530 (350).
