An advance-payment construction scammer has been arrested in the Temple area. Temple police arrested Todd Toms, 26, of Academy on theft charges.
Toms allegedly claimed to be employed by Destiny Custom Homes and agreed to build a privacy fence and took $1,700 in advance to pay for materials, but never purchased materials or returned to the home to build the fence.
Temple police reportedly have received two other complaints about Toms and would like other victims who believe they’ve been scammed by him to come forward. Victims can contact the department at 254-298-5500.
This case reminds me quite a lot of Jay Curtis Slayton’s shed-building companies. Visit our blog post about Slayton for a set of tips about hiring a contractor.
