Debt, fraud and bad business practices, oh my! The modern landscape can be a minefield for consumers. Every year, local, state and national governments pass new consumer protection laws, but scammers and bad businessmen continue to thwart the laws’ best efforts.
In an effort to better empower consumers as they head into the marketplace, Better Business Bureau is joining with federal, state and local government agencies to promote consumer education during National Consumer Protection Week, March 3 – 9.
Thousands of consumers turn to BBB as the preeminent resource on businesses, and our goal is to go the extra mile in encouraging consumers to take full advantage of their consumer rights. Each day during NCPW, BBB will issue a daily consumer protection tip on a variety of consumer issues, like choosing a contractor, protecting your identity, mobile security and other important marketplace issues.
BBB professionals will also be participating in several speaking engagements across Central, Coastal, Southwest Texas and the Permian Basin educating consumers on identity theft and common scams.
Check in daily with BBB through our website (http://centraltx.bbb.org/2013-consumer-protection-week/), Facebook (www.facebook.com/yourBBB), Twitter (@CentralTexasBBB) and our blog (watchyourbuck.com) to see the daily consumer protection tips and to share ideas and tips of your own.
